Saddle Blankets
There are two terms the customer should be familiar with
when purchasing a wool saddle blanket…warp and weft.The warp is the skeleton or framework of any blanket or
rug. The less expensive blankets usually use nylon or polyester
as warp. It is easier to find polyester or nylon that will
withstand 150 lbs. of tension; however, it will dry-rot whereas
wool will not. We use wool warp, which can withstand 150 lbs of
tension, will not dry-rot and will last a lifetime. Washed
repeatedly, it won't rot or weaken. The weft is the
colorful part of the blanket; the part you see. The blanket dye
we use is the finest available.
The wear leathers on the blankets are made of Hermann Oak
strap or skirting leather. We offer both short wear leathers
or long wear leathers that will accommodate a rear cinch. For
your satisfaction we offer a choice of twenty different
patterns, plus 35-40 color choices. We also have solid colors
with contrasting ˝” borders on both the front and rear of the
